Pocket Hosts App

Hi,

I have just found this very useful app called Pocket Hosts.

It is a very simple app which allows you to statically map names to IP addresses on Windows mobile devices just like creating a hosts file on a Windows PC.

This is really useful for testing especially when your test lab uses live Internet DNS names but is actually only an isolated system!

Here is a link to the download site, hope you find it useful.

Edit:

One thing you should note…

….Make sure you do a soft reset after adding hosts otherwise they don’t seem to be picked up (at least on my test device anyway!)

The Windows Mobile Emulator

Recently I have been investigating the new Windows Mobile Emulator that includes the MSFP.

If you are interested the emulator can be downloaded from here:

I think that this is a great idea for a piece of software but as yet there is little documentation. In fact, getting it to connect to the internet is rather tricky especially on VMs (I haven’t actually managed it yet!)

Still there is some info out there. Take a look at the following pages for a good starter guide.

I hope this helps a few people get started and with a bit of luck I may make progress getting it to work in a VM. If I do, I will certainly let you know!

Cheers
